2018年黄俄以撞船威胁，把美舰赶走，随后黄俄媒体欢呼《美国军舰闯南海，中方实行霸气驱逐》并发布视频。美国媒体也报道确有其事“德卡特尔号被迫转向以避开碰撞（The USS Decatur was forced to maneuver out of the way to avoid a collision with the Chinese vessel）”。
但这次不一样。黄俄没发视频，美国方面也予以否认。第七舰队回应道：“中共的说法是谎言。威布尔号并没有被从任何国家的领海被‘驱离’，她遵从国际法完成自由航行行动，并继续进行正常巡航”。英文原文是：The PLA’s statement about this mission is false. USS Curtis Wilbur was not ‘expelled' from any nation’s territory。USS Curtis Wilbur conducted this FONOP (freedom of navigation operation) in accordance with international law and then continued on to conduct normal operations in international waters.
