What you are witnessing now is a sitting president doing his very best to outlaw his political opposition. It is clear he intends to use all of the levers of power to arrest, harass and intimidate his political opposition and while claiming a violent threat from his opposition will give a wink and a nod to those who use violence on his behalf. He has sent out a signal to the cowards and crooks in the opposition to submit or miss out on the spoils and some will come crawling to him pretending to be doing the right thing. Anyone who has spent any time at all studying the rise of authoritarian regimes throughout history knows this playbook.
