BMW Reference: Checking and replacing airbag

Dear BMW Owner,
Your vehicle is subject to a recall campaign with regard to the driver's airbag. With this letter, we would like to inform you about the upcoming measure and apologise for any inconvenience this may cause. What is the reason for this recall?
Experience has shown that factory-fitted steering wheels are converted to other steering wheel variants in individual cases over the period of use of the vehicle. A driver's airbag may have been installed which is affected by recall measures relating to airbags with TAKATA gas generators. The factory-fitted driver's airbag was not affected by this.
The gas generator of these converted driver's airbags may malfunction after many years of ageing. As a result, if an airbag deployment is triggered due to an accident, the gas generator can burst in the worst case. Metal parts can cause injuries - possibly fatal - in this case. What are we going to do?
The driver's airbag must be checked to ensure that your vehicle is in perfect condition and does notendanger your safety and that of all occupants of your vehicle.

Your preferred Authorised BMW Dealer will establish contact with you directly to confirm your appointment.
